How to buy a .ai domain safely
Buying a premium domain from another owner is simple when you use escrow. Here is the full process, from picking a name to seeing it in your own registrar account.
Step 1: Choose your domain
Start by searching for the .ai domain you want to buy, or browse our list of .ai domains for sale. Every listed name is owned by us and ready to transfer.
Step 2: Make an offer
Click Make Offer on any domain and send us the amount you would like to pay. We reply to every offer within 24 hours, and most deals are agreed after one or two rounds.
Step 3: Pay through escrow
Once we agree on a price, the transaction is opened with a licensed escrow service. You pay the escrow service, not us directly. The money is held until you have received the domain, so neither side has to trust the other.
Escrow fees are usually a small percentage of the price. We tell you up front who pays them, and it is written in the escrow agreement.
Step 4: Transfer the domain
When the escrow service confirms your payment, we start the transfer. There are two common ways:
- Registrar transfer: we unlock the domain and give you an authorization code (EPP code). You start a transfer at your own registrar and approve it.
- Account push: if you use the same registrar as us, we can move the domain directly into your account. This is often done within hours.
A normal registrar transfer usually takes 1 to 5 days.
Step 5: Confirm and finish
When the domain shows up in your account, you confirm receipt with the escrow service and the payment is released to us. The domain is now yours.
After you buy: a short checklist
- Turn on auto-renew and keep a valid payment method at your registrar.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for your registrar account.
- Update the contact details so renewal notices reach you.
- Point the DNS to your website or host, and set up email if you need it.
- Add the domain to Google Search Console so you can follow how it performs in search.
How to avoid domain scams
- Never pay a seller directly by wire transfer or crypto for an expensive domain. Use escrow.
- Check that the escrow website is the real one: type the address yourself instead of clicking a link in an email.
- Confirm the domain is in your registrar account before you release payment.
